5 stars hands down. This place exceeded my expectations. The staff was super friendly and their breakfast was fantastic! I ordered the cold brew and it was terrific! Not much to say about it other than you should order it. I also ordered the PB, banana, and honey toast and was blown away at how delicious it was! It's a nice thick slice of bread smothered in peanut butter, bananas, and topped with honey. The atmosphere is also really warm and welcoming. They play some really good music on a low volume so you can study your heart away while being relaxed to the soft sounds. I wish I was around longer to come back more often but I will be soon!

Ugh. Ran Publik through the old Americano test and the place failed miserably. My espresso was burnt to crap but because I was late to an appointment, i didn't have time to ask them to remake it. I've heard (or seen) a couple friends talk and post about it, and so it doesn't surprise me to find that it's quite the brag worthy place to be. Lots of felt hats and skinny jeans, coffee in Mason jars, hand made syrups, etc. But as we all know, talk is cheap. And everyone apparently does a lot of talking for this place, because the taste of the espresso was cheap. Just... Ugh.

The coffee is top notch, whether you're getting a pour over or an espresso-based beverage, all I've had has been excellent, though certainly high octane. It's not cheap though, but you pay for what you get when it comes to coffee. Unless you're going to Bar-stucks, in which case... you're paying too much for crap. Even their decaf was good, and that's a huge plus to me since sometimes I don't want the full throttle caffeine kick, but I want that delicious toasty flavor and a mild pick up. There are plenty of coffee places out there that have a great regular brew, and their decaf is undrinkable dirt water. Not so here. Their iced lattes and pour overs are also quite delightful, and their pastries are decent as well. The toast thing is a cool idea, I suppose, but I haven't tried it so I can't comment on flavor or quality or offerings, etc. They've definitely got the hipster coffee vibe in spades, when it comes to their design, ambiance, and the barista's style and attire, though it's Salt Lake so it still felt friendly and I didn't detect any of that edgy elitism that I'm used to experiencing and rolling my eyes at in Boston or Seattle. You just don't get to be too elitist in this town (thank goodness it's not like that yet, hopefully never will be). While I liked some of the design elements, the overall ambiance didn't really do it for me, at least upstairs, because of the way sound carried. So unless you have headphones, or are really good at tuning out, it was a bit hard to get any work done or concentrate. Especially if the gentlemen next to you are having a hard time controlling the volume of their voice, it just echos off of the painted cinder block walls. Also, depending on the time of day, since the place is pretty popular, apparently at most all times of day, it can be hard to find a seat. And like most of the popular coffee shops in town, people tend to park in their spot for several hours of reading, working, or studying. It seemed like they could really use more seating, or more upstairs floor-space. The little black leather/faux chairs are comfy, if you can get one. The repurposed old-school classroom chairs with attached desk are a cute touch, but they're as comfortable as I remember them being when I was in grade school (that is to say, not at all). This is an up and coming part of town, and I'm glad to see it's got some great stuff going for it. The antique store across the street has some pretty awesome finds, and I was pleased to find some great kitchenware in their, though things seemed more than a touch overpriced in some categories. Too bad for me, though I suppose good for the owners, if people are willing to pay it for stuff from grandma's estate. I guess that's just a sign of changing times for Salt Lake, which was not particularly hip - and definitely far less expensive - when I moved there ten years ago.

Interior of the place is real nice with lots of room as well as a second story. The bathrooms are clean. The coffee, waited like 2 mins to order 2 cortados because the girl in front of me kept talking and the cashier didn't know how to end it. Even after she proceeded to make her drink instead of take my order then finally the barista showed up and he made it. I don't know why it took like 5 mins to make because there was no one else in front of me. Also only 1 barista at the time, things are bound not to run smoothly. Coffee was really good and I enjoyed it. Since I'm not from the area hoping to come back before I leave and try their toast and tea.

I love the story behind Publik and the type of coffee shop it represents. As it turns out, "publik" is a Dutch word that means "community." The old warehouse space facilitates meetings and conversations over coffee in a welcoming environment. Conference rooms and lounge chairs upstairs are perfect for any type of meet up. There's even a venue room downstairs next to the entrance that might even serve as a wedding space. Amazing space aside, Publik's features an extensive gourmet toast menu in addition to coffee. Although I didn't try their toast, I can comment on the coffee roasting here. Their mocha blonde is an interesting alternative if you are a caramel lover. However, my mocha was poorly attended to as the two baristas were conversing and rushed the pour leading to latte art comparable to that of Starbucks quality. The cortado was a better espresso drink for me and tasted very similar to many of my favorite cortados poured with Clover milk. I ended up taking home a single-origin from Ethiopia branded as lomi tasha, which has been a bit inconsistent in flavor. This medium-light roast is more on the acidic side and is more tea-like in flavor when brewed using a v60. Overall, a few negatives for the single-origin roast and customer service, but I would definitely return to try the toast and lounge upstairs.

So this place is cool. Love the deco. They brew Queens Tea (local) which I LOVE, the blue is amazing. Had that with their goat cheese and heirloom tomato jam toast. Holy. Shit. Heaven. I had two pieces and stopped myself from three. One star docked because I felt at $4 after tax for a piece of toast.. It was a bit over priced.

I was surprised to find a local coffee roaster and $4 toast in Salt Lake City, so I had to try. I had both the apricot rose with cream cheese and the strawberry rhubarb with cream cheese toasts. Both were delicious. The thick and spongy toast was beer bread from Red Bicycle Breadworks. The service is okay. The Beekeeper espresso blend is solid. I used it on the Aeropress and as pourover and it tasted great. They have a few single origin roasts too. I enjoyed the macchiato and cappuccino. The

Publik is by far my favorite coffee shop. If the coffee wasn't amazing, I'd still come for the spacious two story layout. You feel very comfortable here and the employees are a big part of that. I love the cinnamon toast and my girlfriend loves the chai. This place is a must try.

Publik is hip, trendy, urban, and minimalist. The industrial vibe of the space creates a unique experience and I embrace it. This place is definitely not for everyone, but I'm obsessed. It is a bit awkward to get to the coffee shop but Google Maps leads me there without any issue. The west part of the building is a rental space, so be careful which doors you enter the building from. The menu is limited but care is put into every drink. My vanilla bean lattes are always perfectly made with beautiful milk art. I was skeptical at first about getting toast because I can make toast at home but the thick slabs of toast and the balance of ingredients is so worth it. My first love was the strawberry rhubarb and cream cheese toast; so damn good! I recently ventured out of my comfort zone and got the toast with peanut butter, banana, and honey and it was worth the risk! The amount of honey on that one piece of toast was almost indulgent and I struggled to maneuver the entire toast into my mouth. Now I have no idea which I will order because they are tied. I appreciate the number of power outlets distributed throughout the shop and there is a reasonable amount of seating; check out the situation upstairs before bringing up all your food and drinks. Publik has definitely become the favorite study location for many college students.

We just had the worst coffee of our life. Ordered two large mochas with almond milk. First of all, we waited almost 20 minutes. Our coffee was completely burnt, the way you would expect at Starbucks. There is no chocolate flavor at all and these coffees are completely undrinkable. Although we don't support chains, we actually wish we had gone to Starbucks. Maybe some of the baristas here are less clueless about how to work almond milk, but we won't be back.

Very cool atmosphere. There was a wedding going on next-door and everyone looked to be having a great time. The space is very modern with high ceilings and cool countertop settings, except that it's not the best for kids. We purchased two large flavors of coffee, one that is their normal every day and the other that is a Sunday special. We will try our own lines of both and report back!

  • Samantha L.

SUCKS big time!!! Prices are as $$$ as San Francisco, and vibe is just any 20 something 30 ish crowd that try to look cool and worthy. and when I asked for iced coffee, they only had 1 kind. nearly $4 for a cup of watered down iced joe. STAY away!!!

  • Crystal H.

I came here to study once, and the space was a lot larger than I expected. I came with about 4 other friends and we were all able to find a seat on the first floor to study. I had the house coffee and it tasted great, but the only thing is I wish it was a bit hotter. The coffee was lukewarm to me, but that may be because I like my coffee hot. I didn't have a chance to check the upstairs out, but the downstairs level was nice and roomy. Another thing I liked about this coffee house was the bathroom. It was nice, clean, and the soap they used was a powdered soap which reminded me of my elementary days. I would definitely come back for more coffee and if I needed a place to study near the city, this place would be it.

Oh Publik! How I wish I could spend my days (and nights) wasting time with you, reading, sipping coffee, snacking on your delicious toast. But alas, I have a job & must spend my time at a desk. I think about you often though.

    (5)
  • Samantha C.

First of all, this space is amazing. The coffee shop itself has a grass-roots vibe with lots of people enjoying a conversation over coffee. The event space was empty but looked super hip. Service was nice with a lot of coffee and food options. I got a soy latte and the best word to describe it was dreamy. Perfect temperature, perfect amount of foam, nice latte art. The small size felt smaller than most smalls but was perfect for a quick coffee on the go.

Two things: coffee & toast. How can anything go wrong when you have an amazing cup of joe coupled with a hefty portion of toast? During my 7-day trip to SLC, I had been to Publik about 4 mornings just for coffee & toast. I'll have to say that they make a mean shot of espresso and a delightful cup of chai tea latte. Ok, I lied. The toast portion isn't exactly "hefty", but it sure is enough to fill you up on a beautiful, snowy morning. I've had their orange habanero with toast cheese, strawberry rhubarb, and maple syrup & powdered sugar toasts. All were absolutely delicious, so I'm confident that the other toast items are just as great! The atmosphere is very finished meets unfinished abandoned warehouse, which definitely draws in a good crowd of hipsters and students (or hipster students). The second level has two rooms that are perfect for group study sessions, filled with big desks, comfy chairs, and a whiteboard for you to fill up with endless Calculus theorems.

It is a well kept secret that Salt Lake City has great coffee and it's places like Publik that make me miss SLC the most. Great coffee drinks, delicious treats, and lovely decor make this a great out of the way spot. So far I've tired 3 of their artisanal toast with jams: heirloom tomato and goat cheese, apricot ginger and cream cheese, and orange habanero. All are really tasty, especially the orange habanero. Nice baristas, fairly low key crowd, and great drinks make this one of my favorite spots to come to when I visit SLC.

  • Sean D.

HUGE coffee shop just south of downtown SLC. Well worth the trek. Coffee is amazing - hand crafted with care, the different types of toast are a must try (lavender pear jam + goat cheese), and the staff is super chill, friendly and welcoming, a nice change from your typical coffee shop with snooty hipsters. The ambiance is also great, well lit and light indie music playing in the background makes for a great atmosphere. I could spend all day here!

Great service, free wifi, killer summer brew. Not all coffee shops have wifi so look out! Very cool designed space

  • Chris L.

Coming from California for a summer internship in Utah I have to say this is one of the most unique coffee shops I have ever been to. The staff are friendly and experts on coffee brewing. As for the toast... Holy shit it's dank. The atmosphere of the venue itself is very modern simplistic with sufficient lighting which makes it great for studying or just conversing with friends. The bathrooms are also super clean so that's always a plus. Definitely one of my favorite coffee shops in SLC.

SLC is getting beyond hip with places like Publik (with a "k" not a "c"). Before our flight back to San Jose, we stopped by for a coffee and tea--I rolled with a warm tea that hit the spot for sure. Prices were reasonable, service was good, and the drinks were ready within minutes. All good things. And they make toast with jams and jellies and nut butters of sorts! Just had breakfast at The Park Cafe, so I had to politely (and sadly) pass. Next time tho. I'm a toast to toast.

  • Jonathan T.

Honestly, one doesn't expect to find a true third wave coffee joint like this in SLC, or in any Interior Western U.S. city, for that matter. Top notch baristas crafting superb espresso drinks. And artisan toast. Seriously delicious artisan toast. And in a converted warehouse with an airy but minimalist feel. Highly recommend.

I loved the environment at Publik, great for studying & meetings, lots of light. My tea and brownie were great, but I didn't find the staff courteous or welcoming.

"I'm making a toast run. Do you need toast?" This comes out of my mouth on the regular. One by one, my cohorts learn of the magic of what my office now refers to as "The fancy toast" and we are converted. Today's toast run consisted of 5 toasts. Because... We. Can't. Stop. You'll wait for it. It's not quick. Shhhhh. Be patient. Walk around. Look at the green grass looking walls. Look at the places upstairs where you can hobo-work. Look at the gigantic event space that you can rent out for a party or wedding or something. Look at the reclaimed wood tables. Drool over the menu and think about which toast you'll try next time. Publik has a full menu of fancy toast. Blue cheese and lavender toast is probably the most fancy kind of toast you've ever heard of. That's the kind of toast we're talking about here. Toast with locally made jams on locally made bread using imaginative combinations. Toast that will honestly change your life. My favorites are toast with goat cheese and heirloom tomato jam. And toast with avocado and olive oil. Can't choose? Don't try. Get both. Eat them together. Problem solved. Lest you think I'm ignoring the "coffee" part of Publik Coffee... I'm not. I'm just as excited about that part. You know how when you're a sweetened with cream kind of coffee drinker and coffee tastes good black? That. Hot and cold. I love me some iced coffee, and Publik's is some of the best cold brew in town. I have one complaint, and that's the fact that they don't have a 20oz option, and sometimes (always) 16oz just not enough. It's smooth and has that rich sort of almost chocolaty flavor. Other magic to note: they roast the marshmallow for your hot chocolate right in front of you. With a torch. Because duh.

  • Chau N.

Needless to say I'll be coming here more often. Publik is a great addition to SLC and much needed. It feels cold yet warm....modern yet cozy. boasted by great coffee. The price for coffee and toast is expensive, not gonna lie, but I'm living by Utah standards! It made my day to see coffee art even in my to go cappuccino! For some reason I've never seen this before in coffee shops around Utah. It felt like the barrister added that special touch, even though they probably do it for everyone. I just like to feel special.

  • Siobhan F.

If you're looking for a spacious cafe to sprawl out and do some work/homework Publik is a legit spot to get your study on. I grabbed a quick cold brew and went on my way, but I'd definitely go back again. It did take a little while for my friends to get their drinks but that just shows that they make their brews with craft and care. If you don't do dairy they have soy and almond options for your caffeinated beverages too, which is always a plus.

The steampunk coffee is very good! I like the atmosphere and good seating. The toast is also hearty and very good.

  • Drew A.

Only thing lacking in this urban-industrial joint is more menu options. Menu is limited to toast, oatmeal, granola and coffee. Favorite toast was the Avocado w/ salt, pepper and olive oil. Best toast I've had. This place screams hipster

    (4)
  • Sandra P.

Love their coffee and the strawberry rhubarb toast. It is hipster and it is over priced, but I still go. I like the industrial design, but the seating isn't great. Not much of it and the chairs are cheap and flimsy feeling. And yet, I still go. The staff is definitely hipster and arrogant. Damn it, I'll be back again and again.

Visiting from Seattle they have the shell of a decent coffee house the right feel and decor but bad food that is overpriced and terrible terrible service. A coffee might come out every five minutes if the people working remember to place the order

  • Roger W.

Heirloom tomato and goat cheese toast and a mocha everyday for 3 days. I'm hooked. I tried the strawberry rhubarb toast and the avocado toast, both of which were great too. The space is great, plenty of seating, the wifi gets a little wonky when the place is full, but otherwise it's great.

  • Chris N.

Here is the shamelessest of plugs for one of the coolest places in #SLC. Yes, these public wifi speeds are real: 39Mbps down 18.51 up. It's a coffee place, but they serve food, have great music, lots of comfy chairs, fast wifi, attractive and polite baristas, and a kind and a wonderfully inspiring staff. Might I add the playlist playing on their system since I've been here? @Wilco, #EchoAndTheBunnymen, The @Ntnl, @officialCrystalCastles. And then a guy that looks just like Bob from #TwinPeaks walked in. Needless to say, you'll stay all day.

I am going to get slapped for this. I know. But 3 stars is A-OK and definitely doesn't mean I hate it. It's good. I like this place. I like the look. I like the feel. It's new; hipster as all get out with house roasted coffee and Edison bulbs up the wazoo. Modern, but old. you know.... So, cool. Why only three stars? Well, toast is cool and all, but it's expensive. For toast. Sure the toppings are unique and different. Things I would do at home. Coffee is good, they roast it. So do many others. So that's not so new. (how many coffee roaster can SLC support? Talk about an explosion. They have all the different ways to get it your cup. Iced, pour over, espresso.... Would I go back. Sure. But not often. It is not in walking distance. It isn't really a neighborhood joint and it requires a special trip. Not something I am willing to do for coffee. Or toast. Go if you are in the area. Make a special trip even. It's good. They have private meeting space which is very cool. I would definitely suggest a meeting here if you are looking for a space. Also looks like a big event room off to the side as well. I did not ask about that.

I don't know what it is, but I love coffee shops. I love the vibe, the sights and sounds of these type of establishments...maybe I am just hoping to bump into Rachel Green...I dunno. Publik is on my daily route into the office and when I saw the renovation happening I was curious and stopped by to peak at what was going on, and was amazed at how big the place was going to be, and the first time I went in I was amazed at how open and bright everything was. On the main floor, tables were filled with people sipping on a wide variety of aromatic beverages and snacking on delicious variations of the toast you grew up with. Upstairs you could see people on laptops hoboworking and Publik also has what? Two meeting rooms that are available to reserve if you need an office or to get out of your's. How awesome is that? I'll answer for you...pretty damn awesome. My last visit I enjoyed the Peanut Butter, honey and Banana toast and it was delicious. I have it under good authority as well...(cough) that the Blond Mocha is what the Ancient Greeks believed the gods on Olympus referred to as Ambrosia. Needless to say, I will be frequenting Publik Coffee Roasters, and it just isn't because it is on my way to and from work. I'd make a number of detours to visit this place. Now you ask, why 5 stars?! 1 for replacing the 'C' with a 'K' 1 for being a local coffee shop (can SLC have too many? I say no) 1 for the space itself...no pictures do it justice, you need to go there 1 for the friendly...really cool staff 1 for doing things different that other coffee shops (their menu is awesome and delicious)

Love supporting local but 25 minutes for an iced coffee and an Americano for $9 is ridiculous. Staff better.

    (3)
  • Eric D.

Huge airy space with lots of light. Good cappuccino, but not as foamy as a true Italian style.

    (4)
  • Michael B.

Cool people and others are here. Great toast!! I can personally recommend the peanut butter banana (and honey?) & the strawberry rhubarb & cream cheese. Also enjoyed their glutton free toast with avocado sprouts etc! Fresh coffee, cool vibe, open modern industrial decor. Not the worst people watching Sat @ 10:30am. Lots of laptops and stretchy yoga pants; just sayin.

Love the Americano, best coffee in SLC. Nice place to work as well, although I wish they were open a little later.

Upon walking in I immediately compared it to Brooklyn Roasting Company, a coffee roaster similar in style, taste, and size in the DUMBO neighborhood of Brooklyn; while lacking in overall aesthetics (Brooklyn is light years ahead of Salt Lake), Publik. has begun a coffee renaissance in our small and often stifling town. The toast selection is what will keep me coming back for breakfast, and the coffee is absolutely miraculous. I was disappointed in the somewhat smaller coffee menu, but that doesn't mean they can't put something together with their knowledge of libations. I also hope more people hear about this place, as there were only six people in this large building on a Sunday morning. It's places like this that Salt Lake City so desperately needs. Was this review pretentious enough for you?

  • Angelica R.

I'll admit that I was pretty smitten with this place upon walking through the door. The space is absolutely phenomenal. It's open, clean, and very well thought out. It sounds really cheesy, but going there to write is perfect. There is tons of open space (so you don't get too distracted) as well as many nooks and crannies to do your own thing in. They also have great table options if you're looking to be more social. There latte is so delicious-the barista's are obviously well trained. I've tried to blue cheese and pear toast and the heirloom and goat cheese toast--both delicious. I can't wait to go back and try the rest. Love this place, love the service, love the food, love the coffee. So excited to bring new people here!

The best atmosphere and coffee in Salt Lake. Great for meetings with conference rooms, tables, great service and more. Highly recommend!

  • Michelle T.

Don't come in a hurry. My drink took about five times longer than necessary, and I was one of only three customers. It wasn't worth the wait, and I only finished half of it. The espresso was sour and overextracted, and while I'm not a huge fan of foam, there was next to none on my cappuccino. The space is cool, but full of uncomfortable furniture and it echoes like the warehouse it is. I came here to work, and will be leaving to go spend more money where I can relax and think. Staff is typical hipster-aloof as many others have said, and don't care that I don't like the drink they suggested or that the tables are covered with crumbs and spills. I won't be back.

  • Anthony S.

This is a really nice building! The decor is cool and modern and it's a really good place to get some work done. They have two floors of seating and they even have private meeting rooms. They specialize in toast (so hipster I know).

  • Doris D.

Really cool and hip spot for coffee and breakfast. I ordered cappuccino and wasn't the best I had but pretty good and the highlight was the orange habanero toast, simply AMAZED. Place was clean and decor was really nice. Great service, I will be back next time I visit Salt Lake.

I come here quite often for an early morning study sesh but only until 10am. When it starts getting really busy it becomes impossible to hear yourself think. I love their lavender toast & vanilla latte.

  • Sarah V.

I always recommend this cafe to my friends. It's a large space, airy, and has a relaxed vibe. The coffee is roasted on the premises and they are very particular about how they pour their espresso. The main food here is toast but they do a good job of it - large, thick slices (including a gluten free option) and tasty flavors such as tomato jam with goats cheese. Wifi is available and there are plenty of places to study and meeting rooms which are available to hire. Also, its not too far from a trax stop.

  • Benjamin C.

I crave their toast constantly. Very clean, and the baristas are very friendly. (And cute, which is always a plus.) I'm not much of a coffee drinker and haven't tried theirs yet, so I can't comment on that but it seems like they know what their doing.

  • Erik P.

Great venue. Near perfect espresso pulls every time. Kind people behind the bar. Cold, filtered water to drink (important). The only thing they could work on is timing - getting the espresso drinks out a bit quicker. I'm not sure what slows them down there. Also, give the steampunk coffee a try. It produces some of the best non-espresso coffee I've ever tasted. This is definitely a working coffee shop during the weekdays. Lots of people (including myself) leveraging the great space and setup for their office away from home. It was clearly designed for this and works very well. Tons of natural light too. Glad to see this relatively new business in our small city.

  • Kelvin L.

This was the nicest coffee shop I have ever been to. Every fixture was interesting to look at and the machines were top of the line. I came to try out the steampunk machine and it did not disappoint. It tasted somewhat watery due to the reduced amount of grounds in the coffee but supposedly there is a metal filter that gives the brew more of a French Press traditional mouth feel. The process was a little slow but it was interesting to see your cup brewing right in front of you in the transparent chamber and the clean flavors really allowed you to taste the coffee. Overall the crew seemed a bit bored (like they needed a shot) and had kind of a dispassionate millennial hipster thing going on but it didn't bother me. They were interesting to look at. The room was nice with a giant modern fan and the upstairs gave you a lot of privacy to hang out and work. Everything was new and well thought out from the power outlets to the bathroom fixtures. My only complaint would be their transparent glass menu is nearly impossible to read due to ceiling lights behind the glass shining through the text. Might want to consider placing something dark behind it, maybe a piece of wood to match the rest of the room. The toast I tried was fairly bland and boring.

Delicious! We were headed out of town and in search of some quality espresso. This place was amazing. First: they enjoy their craft coffee, Second: they aren't snobby like many other artisanal / craft roasters, Third: after drinking our cortado and cappuccino we asked if they'd do coffee for the road and they responded with an ''of course!" I just wish that we had the time and opportunity to stay, chat, sip more. The industrial decor is spacious, but tasteful and welcoming. The ladies were incredibly helpful, friendly and accommodating. I also got a 'toast' of which they have a full menu. I got the special on jalopeno bread with rosemary orange marmalade on goat cheese. OMG. Freaking out of this world phenomenal toast. The word 'Toast' doesn't even do it justice. They even made it to go without a second hesitation. That's amazing. They had a huge wall of specialty coffee brewing apparatus' for purchase so I took a pix and directed my friend over and she showed up later to get her chemex setup started. (Your welcome.) If we're ever back in town this will definitely be our coffee headquarters. Thanks for making some fine brew!

Layover at SLC... Temple Square, or toast...? TOAST. Lyft it here, have a coffee and a mango habanero+goat cheese... Lyft it back. Worth the 30-40 round trip and 8-9 bucks for brekkie.

My new favorite coffee shop in SLC, or should I say "coffee/toast shop"? The toast is unreal.. They take plain bread to a level I never knew was possible. There are a few toast choices and I went with the heirloom tomato goat cheese toast, sounds weird I know. The bread is so thick and fluffy and has the perfect blend of seeds or grains or whatever it is that's in it. The goat cheese is creamy and perfectly proportioned with the tomato spread and bread. The toast itself will get me coming back regularly and the rustic, airy interior is pretty great too. It's the type of place you can relax at alone or being your friends too when they're visiting from out of town.

Visiting for a week, and I work from home, so on a tour of SLC coffee houses. I was a bit shocked at the prices here and almost asked if Utah also applies sin-tax to coffee, but nevertheless, got my standard (12 oz americano, 2 shots) it was well over $3. But anyhow, you know how there are coffees that have such a nice finish you don't want to eat anything for a long period after finishing it, bc it has left such a pleasant memory in your mouth? This was not the case here -- the aftertaste of this coffee remained, unfortunately, for some time to come. Further, I would not recommend Publik if you are looking for WiFi. It did not work. I asked others in the shop, and they too were having troubles. We asked if they could reset it, they said they would but the situation did not improve. I eventually gave up and left. I would consider this an adventure, but have no desire to ever repeat the experience of visiting Publik.

This my first time here. I love the building look and feel. The menu of toast is different and it was pretty amazing. The coffee is good but the maple powdered sugar toast.... AMAZING!!! Im here for a second time adding to my review. The strawberry rhubarb cream cheese toast. AMAZING!!!!

Looking for a cool coffee spot? Here it is. I usually get a blonde mocha and toast. I love the unique combinations of spreads they have. You can mix and match whichever bread and spread you want! I recommend getting cream cheese and a spread of your preference. It's hard to say which if my favorite, I like them all! They do tend do take a while with your order though, and if there is a line, it will take even longer. I usually study there so it doesn't matter much to me because I just place my order and study until it's ready.

Really good smooth coffee is hard to find. Publik meets the bill. Very good coffee. We really enjoyed our lattes. The only set back was hard chairs and cold un-inviting seating spaces. The white walls and poor temperature control with uncomfortable stools sent us out early. Thanks for reading. The Bike Chaplain

I have to agree with many other reviews. Amazing space that's understaffed with a lack of personal engagement. Never got to the coffee. Unfortunate.

Great space. Beautiful drinks. Service gets delayed, and they close at 6pm (which is a surprise).

The space deserves 5 stars. The coffee deserves -1 stars. Sadly, I don't go to coffee shops for the architecture so I likely won't be back. *The barista who took my order was fine, a little hipster cooler-than-you, but generally fine. The guy who actually made my coffee was great, and I'm pretty sure he was poached from the Rose Establishment. *The toast was great. Granted, it was $4 toast, so it should be. I got the maple syrup option and it tasted like french toast. My wife got a muffin, which was only so-so. *The coffee. Oh dear. My wife ordered a latte with normal milk, I got the drip coffee with soy. Both were terrible. The espresso is so acidic it's sour and tastes burnt. Tastes worst than Starbucks coffee, which is about the worst thing I can say about coffee. My drip coffee managed to taste both watery and burnt, which is kind of impressive, actually. It was more expensive than even hip coffeehouse coffee should be and you pay extra for refills, but I couldn't finish my first cup. The barista that took my order brought out the soy milk when I requested it, and then stood there and watched me pour it into my coffee like a hawk, apparently so I didn't use too much? It was weird. Sadly, even milk couldn't save that coffee, complete with sour, strained-through-a-sock aftertaste. Yelch. Again, the space has a really cool vibe and would be a genuinely neat place to hang out. But drink your coffee at home first.

I really enjoyed their eclectic toast offerings and I thought it was really creative and great. The coffee was good but I had the habanero orange marmalade toast which really won me over.

Something's are worth waiting a few minutes more for. I prefer that the baristas take a little time to make my coffee. If your looking for a fast food coffee place, where they have prepackaged day old muffins, then try StarB#*ks. If your looking for an enjoyable well made toast and coffee Publik is your place.

For a place that is semi hidden I had no idea this place even existed! Even at 8 am they were bumping with people so early in the morning. It was well worth the wait for my breakfast!! The atmosphere and the staff was incredible and I am so impressed to see yet again another business take something old and make it new again

I love everything about this place! Where do I even begin? I had a cold brew and also had a chance to try the blonde mocha as well. I'm personally a plain black coffee type of person but I found both drinks to be very delicious. The cold brew was pretty light in flavor and had just the right amount of bitterness, very refreshing for such a hot day. The staff here was very kind and patient with their new customers. They took the time to explain their different drinks and coffee beans in great detail when I went up to ask. It made my experience here very inviting and enjoyable. Location-wise, I love the way they decorated the interior. It has an extremely spacious, open-air feel to it and was very comfortable. I especially liked the abundance of natural light inside. They have two separate and enclosed study rooms upstairs which was a first for me, definitely a cool concept! In conclusion I would most definitely come back here again the next time I visit SLC!

Publik Coffee Roasters is a brand new coffee joint in Salt Lake City. Before the SLC location, they opened a coffee shop in Park City. Publik Coffee Roasters is located near the 900 S Trax stop right near a I-15 exit on West Temple. The location is a little hidden, but there is plenty of parking and fairly easy to get to. On to the coffee, because it is a coffee shop. Publik roasts its own beans and I really liked the coffee. I ordered an Ethiopian pour over on their Alpha Dominche and later I ordered a latte. Don't worry they also do standard pour overs if you do not like the Alpha Dominche. I found the coffee very good, flavorful, fresh, and well-balanced. The quality of the coffee was comparable to other small batch roasters in SLC. Besides lattes, cortados, drip, pour overs, and expresso, Publik also features pastries and various toasts with jam, cream cheese, butter, and other ingredients. I ordered the orange and habanero toast and really enjoyed it. The jelly was yummy and the bread was thick and fluffy. The coffee is very good and so is the ambiance of Publik. Drawing inspiration from Sightglass coffee (7th St location) in San Francisco, seating is plentiful and the building is roomy (downstairs and upstairs). The building seems very open due to their upstairs that overlooks the first level and coffee bar (take a look at the pics). Near the coffee bar, there are large windows that feature the area where the beans are roasted. I really enjoyed the ambiance, the music is pretty good, and the staff is friendly and knowledgable. Publik has two private rooms that will have TVs with full AV hook ups and wireless printing. These rooms are meant for meetings for non-profits or students (these are for rent soon). The bathrooms are very contemporary as is the rest of the building. I had a feeling like I was in San Francisco. Publik sells their own coffee, merchandise, and brewing equipment by Chemex and Hario. Finally, Publik has a large area/room that is available for events such as art shows. I am not sure if Publik coffee is my favorite small batch coffee in SLC, but it is very good. I could see myself hopping around to different coffee shops in SLC and being very satisfied. Publik is a nice entry into the SLC coffee scene and I look forward to who they will grow in the future.

Tried the heirloom tomato and goat cheese toast....a very interesting mix of acidity, sweet, and cheese. Love the space though - super hipster with its warehouse interior and wonderful natural lighting. A great start to my first trip to Utah!

Iced coffee is like crack! Try it it's amazing. I've heard they may be doing growlers soon, if so I'm looking forward to it. Don't kill it with cream and sugar! Haven't had any of their toast yet but will without a doubt be back for their iced coffee whenever I'm in the area. Their speed of service could be a bit better, but they definitely take their time to make drinks and things that are on point. Go to Starf*cks if you want your burnt latte ten seconds ago.

Great coffee and awesome atmosphere. If you love the hipster vibe this place has it all. Was quiet early on Sunday but got pretty busy around 11am. Next time I'll have to try a toast because they looked delicious.

    * Great coffee * Overpriced toast, $8 for a single slice with avocado!? * Sterile uninspired generic decor

To emulate the vibe of Publik, let's use a joke...how did the hipster burn his mouth? He drank his coffee before it was cool... So ambiance is nüe hipster fantastic...nice, big and open. But I gotta concur w/ an earlier 3 star giver. Everything feels to be about .50 to .75 cents overpriced for being on the West side of SLC for coffee. (To be fair, it IS amazing coffee). Toast, although really great, way too much. Location, one I love, is out of the way. You can't even access it getting from off the freeway...and it's right next to a freeway entrance. Cray, cray. All in all, it's an incredibly thought out bldg, and one to visit if you happen to be in the area, and...after payday.

A simple menu, a lot of space, and a classic third wave industrial atmosphere; what more could you want from a coffee shop? Coffee via steampunk is definitely worth a try. I went with the Kenya and it was one of the cleanest brews I've ever tasted. Publik puts SLC coffee on the map.

Rode my bike here from downtown because I heard such good things about this place, & sure enough, those things were true! Love the vibes Publik gives off. The style of this place is way rad, not to mention their coffee & toast is super good. Thought it was really cool how you can rent out rooms for events or conferences or whatever you need them for. & the whole upstairs lounge area is super chill. I would highly recommend stopping by when you have a chance to check this place out :)

The coffee selection is great, the space is incredible and the location is modern-industrial so parking and navigation can be a pain, but don't let that push you away it's totally worth it!

Publik definitely raises the hipster cred of the neighborhood. SLC has several exceptional places to get great coffee. Public is right at the top. Best Latte I ever had!!!

The hot chocolate was ok. Looked fancy, but didn't taste like hot chocolate. The employees were friendly, but it was such slow service. The design of the building is hip, trendy and modern, which is cool. The location is hard to find and the early closing hours aren't the best. I would return to Publik, but in all honesty, I think it's a little overhyped.

Located in the upcoming neighborhood of West 900 South in downtown Salt Lake City, Publik Coffee offers a nice selection of artisan toast and delicious coffee in an industrial space with a Brooklyn vibe. The drinks and toasts taste beautifully. They are also presented in a way that will make you want more. Highly recommend this place.

Wow. This coffee shop is really hot and new. Publik instantly becomes my number one local coffee shop in Salt Lake City. They have a really good atmosphere, fresh environment. The staff goes above and beyond in assisting you. I really like the mocha. They house made chocolate the way i like it. More tastes of coffee to try in the future. I bet they are outstanding.

Amazing toast. Beautiful space. And amazing espresso. Their quad shot was everything. Closest thing to a European espresso.

Some of the best coffee in town! Been there a few times now, and everything I've ordered has been prepared with care by the friendly staff. The space is pleasant and airy, very industrial in style. Menu is alright (creative and tasty takes on toast)--- don't go expecting soup or salad for lunch, but it will do just fine if you need a substantial snack. The music is really the only thing that detracts from the nice atmosphere. I always find the music there to be loud and obtrusive for study and even conversation; my headphones don't quite block it out. Endless succession of 90s/00s indie songs, which is not bad per se but gets really old, esp when blaring.
